Carole Cadwalladr: Public inquiry into the EU referendum

“The one thing that I would change if I had the power to, would be to get a public inquiry into what happened in the referendum ... There have been multiple investigations into illegal overspending, illegal coordination, illegal interference by a hostile foreign power. We have evidence, we had official government agencies reporting back & concluding that yes, laws were broken, but we have got no overarching investigation or inquiry into that. And we are about to exit the EU on the back of that"

Carole also said: “So it seems to me, that there is an urgent necessity that for the sake of rule of law and our democracy, we are desperate to have some sort of official inquiry, judge led investigation which has the powers to compel evidence and witnesses and just tell us what happened, what laws were broken and to make a set of recommendations to the government. Because we are changing British history on the back of what we know was illegality. And that strikes me as very, very wrong.”
