Open and free press

Open and free press

Open journalism. More value on caring

Points

In Saturday's assembly, one of the groups fedback on the need for independent journalism

In Saturday's assembly, one of the groups said that we need a free press. A more honest press would help create a more transparent and equitable UK, and would foster better education and community.

From Sunday's assembly, one group's clear priority was to invoke strict limitations on the ownership of media

Considering this process was initiated at Byline Festival, this proposal is patently a priority. The stories we heard at the festival from whistleblowers, politicians and journalists themselves made it very clear that the UK corporate media is utterly compromised, made biased by billionaire owners who are driving a hateful agenda that divides the country and props up the extreme outrages of neoliberalism. We must democratise the media.
